We report the case of a 59-year-old Brazilian woman who sustained an injury to her right index finger when the cat she was caring for scratched her. She developed a tender, ulcerating, scaly lesion with a pustular component and surrounding erythema at the site of trauma. Secondary lesions consisting of dusky violaceous coloured nodules then appeared along the proximal lymphatics of the patient’s upper limb. A punch biopsy was performed and skin scrapings were sent for mycology and culture. The skin scrapings and biopsy confirmed the presence of Sporothrix brasiliensis, which was consistent with the fact that the cat had also been suspected to be suffering from this infection. This therefore confirmed a diagnosis of lymphocutaneous sporotrichosis.
